Statement from Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Alex Plechash

“Amy Klobuchar launched her campaign for governor by telling Minnesotans to trust her because she was a prosecutor. Now taxpayers are being handed the bill for her record.

Marvin Haynes lost nearly 20 years of his life after being wrongfully convicted in a case prosecuted while Amy Klobuchar led the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office. A judge later vacated that conviction, finding the case relied on unreliable eyewitness evidence and lacked physical evidence tying Haynes to the crime. Now the Legislature is moving $4.5 million to compensate him for the injustice.

This is the Klobuchar Cleanup Act.

Amy Klobuchar does not get to run for governor as the tough-on-crime prosecutor while pretending her prosecutorial record does not exist. This was not a press conference. This was not a campaign slogan. This was a man’s life, a family’s suffering, and now a multimillion-dollar cost to Minnesota taxpayers.

Minnesotans are tired of Democrats creating disasters, denying responsibility, and forcing taxpayers to clean up the mess. Amy Klobuchar owned that office. She owns this record. And if this is what her leadership produced before she was governor, Minnesota cannot afford to find out what her failures would cost from the governor’s office.”
