MN GOP Chairman Alex Plechash: Walz Responds to Historic Fraud With More Bureaucracy and Zero Accountability

ST. PAUL — Minnesota Republican Party Chairman Alex Plechash issued the following statement in response to Governor Tim Walz’s announcement of a new fraud prevention program and the appointment of an “anti-fraud czar”:

“Minnesota is facing one of the largest public fraud scandals in state history, and Tim Walz’s response is more government, more bureaucracy, and zero accountability,” said MN GOP Chairman Alex Plechash. “Billions of taxpayer dollars were lost on his watch, yet he still refuses to admit fault or hold anyone responsible.”

“Not a single commissioner has been fired. Not a single senior political appointee has been disciplined. No DFL officials who oversaw these programs have been held accountable. Instead, Minnesotans are being asked to pay for another layer of government because Tim Walz won’t take responsibility for his own failures.”

Plechash said the scope of the fraud under the Walz administration is staggering and spans multiple agencies and programs:

“This isn’t one isolated incident. It’s a pattern — Feeding Our Future, housing programs, Medicaid and autism-related fraud — all occurring across agencies run by Walz-appointed DFL officials. These scandals didn’t happen overnight, and they didn’t happen without warning. Red flags were raised, audits were ignored, and whistleblowers were brushed aside.”

“The only reason Minnesotans know the full scale of this disaster is because federal law enforcement stepped in. These cases weren’t uncovered because of Walz’s leadership — they were uncovered because the system failed so badly that the feds had no choice but to intervene.”

Plechash said appointing an internal “czar” does nothing to fix a culture of negligence and political protection:

“You don’t fix systemic fraud by expanding the same administration that allowed it to flourish. You don’t restore trust by letting DFL insiders investigate other DFL insiders. And you don’t protect taxpayers by refusing to admit the truth.”

“Tim Walz wants Minnesotans to believe this is reform. It isn’t. It’s the same failed leadership, the same political culture, and the same refusal to hold anyone accountable — just with a new title and a bigger price tag for taxpayers.”

“Minnesotans deserve answers, consequences, and real accountability — not another press conference designed to distract from the biggest failure of Tim Walz’s governorship.”
