Statement from MN GOP Chair Alex Plechash on Governor Walz’s Anti-Fraud Executive Order

ST. PAUL, MN – One day into his re-election campaign, Governor Walz is already playing political games to cover up his horrendous record on fraud.

Governor Walz had two full terms to act, yet over $1 billion of taxpayer money was stolen on his watch. Not one commissioner was fired. Only one bureaucrat was held accountable. Now, suddenly, Walz wants Minnesotans to believe he’s serious about stopping fraud in his own administration? It’s a joke—and Minnesotans know it.

Creating yet another council of agency insiders to “review processes” won’t solve anything. These are the same agencies that allowed fraud to spiral out of control in the first place. Agencies accused of fraud cannot be trusted to investigate themselves.

The truth is, Walz blocked real reforms. Last session, the Senate passed a bipartisan bill to create an independent, statewide Office of Inspector General with subpoena power and law enforcement authority. That is the kind of oversight Minnesotans deserve. But Walz and House Democrats killed the bill because they don’t want real accountability.

This executive order is not a solution—it’s a distraction. Minnesotans deserve leadership that will protect their tax dollars, hold government accountable, and put families ahead of fraud and special interests. Governor Walz has proven time and again he cannot deliver that.
