Amy Klobuchar once demanded bipartisan action, full investigations and urgent election safeguards. Now that President Trump is calling for action, she is hiding behind her party.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Minnesota Republican Party Chairman Alex Plechash today challenged Amy Klobuchar to stop hiding behind Democratic leaders and join President Donald Trump in strengthening America’s elections.
For years, Klobuchar spoke forcefully about election integrity:
“Foreign interference in our elections is a threat to our democracy and our security and cannot be tolerated.”
She demanded a:
“Full and thorough Congressional investigation.”
She insisted that the investigation be:
“Free from partisanship and politics.”
And she said the country must:
“Uncover all the facts and make sure our future elections are safeguarded from overseas interference.”
Klobuchar later warned:
“Foreign access to critical source code information and sensitive data continues to be an often overlooked vulnerability.”
She added:
“If such vulnerabilities are not quickly examined and mitigated, future elections will also remain vulnerable to attack.”
And she declared:
“Time is of the essence.”
Those are not Donald Trump’s words. They are Amy Klobuchar’s.
“By her own standard, Amy Klobuchar should be standing with President Trump and demanding investigations, bipartisan solutions and stronger election safeguards,” Plechash said. “Instead, she is retreating to the back bench and hoping Minnesotans do not notice.”
“That is not caution. It is not moderation. It is political cowardice.”
When Democrats believed election-integrity concerns helped them politically, Klobuchar demanded immediate action and warned that American democracy was at risk. Now that President Trump and Republicans are demanding action, she follows Chuck Schumer, Elizabeth Warren and the Democratic establishment.
“When her party handed Amy Klobuchar election-integrity talking points, she repeated them word for word,” Plechash said. “Now that standing by those words would require her to break ranks with the left, she has gone quiet.”
Klobuchar is asking Minnesotans to elect her governor. Governors cannot hide behind party leadership, issue carefully rehearsed statements and wait for someone else to make the difficult decisions.

“For nearly three decades, Amy Klobuchar has built a career celebrating small, safe accomplishments while avoiding the major fights that require political courage,” Plechash said. “When the stakes are high, she takes her seat on the back bench, votes with her party and hopes no one notices.”
“She now has a chance to make history. She can use her seniority, her position and her own stated commitment to bipartisan solutions to strengthen America’s elections. She can join President Trump, demand that the evidence be examined and help develop serious election-integrity legislation.”
“But she will not.”
“Her record tells us exactly what she will do: sit quietly, follow her party and wait for the controversy to pass.”
Plechash called on Klobuchar to support citizenship verification, voter identification, accurate voter rolls, secure election technology and a full investigation of credible evidence of foreign interference.
“Amy Klobuchar once said these questions must be examined ‘free from partisanship and politics,’” Plechash concluded. “Now she must decide whether those were genuine principles or merely convenient political talking points.”
“This is her opportunity to lead. Unfortunately for Minnesota, Amy Klobuchar’s entire record tells us she will choose the back bench instead.”
